Founded in 2007, Prospect Brewery is one of the North West’s leading independent real ale brewers.
In April 2007, the brewery infamously started life in the garage of a domestic house on Wigan Road in Standish. The 5-barrel brewhouse was acquired from Bank Top brewery in nearby Bolton.
2017 saw the move from Standish, our home for the first 10 years, to our new, larger brewery in Wigan Town Centre. We continue to have strong links to the town’s mining heritage and the names of our beers are closely linked with this history and culture of the town.
In 2019 the brewery was bought by John and Gill Stephenson. With their many years experience in the wholesale trade, both John and Gill have been determined to grow the brewery by introducing some new beers and bringing back some old favourites. We have added small package beers, bottles, mini kegs and bag in box, to our range during the last year in order to fulfil changing demands.
Even through the challenges of 2020 our mission has remained, quite simply, to bring you imaginative but traditional real ales brewed using just four simple ingredients: barley, whole hops, yeast and water.
Our range of real ales, many of them award winners, are brewed to suit all tastes from the light golden Silver Tally to the delicious dark mild, Nutty Slack.
Add to that the monthly and seasonal specials and we now offer in the region of 22 ales.
Our beers are available on draught across the
North West and beyond.
We are proud members of SIBA’s Assured Independent Craft Brewer scheme.
